Resources for Avoiding Foreclosure

It is Habitat for Humanity Lake County’s goal to keep our families in their homes. Should there come a time where a family is struggling with mortgage payments, the key is communication. HfHLC staff must be made aware of the issues at hand to work with you to find a solution. Homeowners are encouraged to contact the Habitat office at (707) 994-1100 to set up a meeting to discuss their individual situation and find a solution that works for both parties. HfHLC can offer such solutions as Loan Modification and Repurchase Options in order to avoid the foreclosure process.

Following are some resources that may also be able to help.

Resources for Foreclosure Avoidance
The Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) has resources to help you understand your debt obligations and communicate with Habitat. HUD-approved housing counseling agencies are available to provide you with the information and assistance you need to avoid foreclosure. Call 888-995-HOPE (4673) to speak with an expert about your individual situation. Also, there are online resources offered via the HUD website available at https://www.hud.gov/homeownerhelp.

Notice to Members of the Armed Services
If you are a servicemember or a dependent of a service member, you may be entitled to certain protections under the federal Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (50 U.S.C. Sec. 3901 et seq.) regarding the servicemember’s interest rate and the risk of foreclosure, and counseling for covered servicemembers that is available at agencies such as Military OneSource and Armed Forces Legal Assistance.
